Warlord Chronicles of the Warlands Book 3 Elizabeth Vaughan 9780765352668 Books

Sometimes it is satisfying to read a conclusion that was forshadowed throughout a trilogy so heavily that it is a certainty. It is the path to that certainty which can hold the readers attention with the uncertainties that lie between the current point of the plot and the foregone conclusion. This is a difficult task for a writer, I have lost interest in several trilogies and series because the writer has failed to keep the plot interesting (for me at least). Elizabeth Vaughan is a writer who met and bested this challenge. She bookended her trilogy between the Cerrmony of Keir claiming Xylara as his Warprise and the Ceremony of Xylara claiming Keir as her Warlord, but all of the story between, and the quite satisfying denouement, thoroughly held my attention.

An altogether satisfying conclusion to the trilogy and well worth the read.

Warlord Chronicles of the Warlands Book 3 Elizabeth Vaughan 9780765352668 Books Reviews

Those of you following my reviews know I had a hard time wading through Warsworn. I was frustrated with the characters, frustrated with the plot, and generally discontented with the dark direction Ms. Vaughan took the story. Warlord was a return of everything I loved in Warprize. It takes all the defeats suffered in Warsworn, and turns them into victories.

In Warlord, Kier's party has finally made it to the Heart of the Planes, and Lara must be tested by the Warrior Priests to determine her legitimacy as a Warprize. Kier is also on trial for the decisions he made that lead to the plague deaths.

This book was just fantastic. It delves heavily into the politics of the Firelanders, which I found completely fascinating. Ms. Vaughan really did some great world building with these people.

Although Lara and Kier spend most of the book apart, the romance between these two still heats up the pages. I have to say - I love both of their characters. They are both flawed in their way, but they've grown throughout the series. They are still honorable, determined, and dedicated, but they've learned to tempter their stubbornness. I found their love realistic and delicious. I couldn't get enough of them together.

The plot is engaging, and well-paced. There are no dead spots in the story, the suspense keeps you turning the pages. There are plots within plots to be uncovered. Friends that become enemies, enemies that reveal themselves as allies. The story twists and turns and takes us on a suspense filled journey, before finally giving us a very satisfying end to a great series.
I first read this story a long time ago, but never get bored of it and often re read it with pleasure. But at first, I searched for the next one, and I was happy to see that the next were going to be released soon, under "warcry" title.
I'm a Keir/Lara couple fan. I m fascinated by Keir's vision and what Lara has brought to him, not only for his plans but for himself.
At the end of this book, there is still some questions unanswered. And I feel such possibilities for the story to explore.
There is a thing that the firelanders don't lack, it's to rule crisis by bloodshed and live their lives in the plains with hot intense passion.
Recommend
At one point I found myself heartbroken and crying, then the next I found myself stunned and happy. This series has so many things happening with the well written actions, plots, just the sheer amount of being their. Everything is so well thought out in the type of medieval time picture. I would highly recommend this book Right now I am getting the next book of the series.
This is an extremely satisfying ending to a storyline that soothes my soul and reminds me why I love to read fantasy. Elizabeth Vaughan spins a story that is compelling - that kind of book that leads to very bad bookhangovers because you cannot put it down. I am very sad to see this chapter end. I know there are more stories, but I really want more of Lara and Keir. Short of that, I'm going to have to do an annual re-read. Beloved, beloved, beloved.
I purchased Warprize, the first in the series several years ago in paperback. It blew me away. I can't say I loved it, because that would devalue what I felt. It was subtle, it was stark in clarity, and felt like I lived in that world and experienced it first hand. Not really a romance, not really an adventure, not an adventure, but something about it sucked me in and took me over. I loved the world, the culture, the beliefs and all the nuances of life in on the plains. I couldn't wait to get the next one Warsworn and the next one, Warlord, and was not disapointed. I dumped all my hundreds of paperbacks, all but a select few, in favor of when I decided to go electronic instead of paper. I saw these recently in format and had to repurchase them.I still have the paperbacks but decided to keep them as they are really hard to find. I saw a new book, a 4th in the series, I have already purchased it for , but am looking forward to re-reading them all again before I read the newest one.
I loved this entire series. It starts as the Warlord claims a country as his or there will be war. The country surenders and the rulers daughter who is a healer goes as hostage to the warlord. Their cultures are extremely different. The Warlords culture revolves around warriors. Children are given toy weapon s as toys and they are trained as wariors from birth. Men and women are all equal with equal requirements for each. Parents have nothing to do with children after their birth. The heroine 's people are more similar to our culture but not set in our time period. The book is a series and it's a page turner. I couldn't read fast enough and I was so sad when I finished the series. It was hard to leave their world and find a new book. I am greatful to Elizabeth Vaughn for sharing her world with me and I love her writing!
